Offshore
Observations over the sea (0815-0915) produced 23 Common Scoter, 6 Red-throated Diver, 5 Shag, 3 Razorbill, 3 Guillemot, 2 Gannet and a Kittiwake.
Wildfowl and Waders
Wildfowl included 300 light-bellied Brent Goose.
Miscellaneous
At least 3 Barn Owl were seen.
Ringing
The pair of light-bellied Brent Geese ringed at Axiel Heiberg Island, Canada on 2nd August 2014 have returned for another winter.
Founded in 1964, the work of Walney Bird Observatory is funded entirely by membership subscription. Since 1965 it has been an accredited member of the British Trust for Ornithology’s bird observatories network which operates across Britain and Ireland. Observations over the sea (0830-0900) produced 6 Common Scoter, 5 Red-throated Diver, 4 Kittiwake and single Gannet and Shag.
Grounded Migrants
Early morning thrushes involved 2 Fieldfare.
Diurnal Migration
A Grey Wagtail flew over.
Wildfowl and Waders
Wildfowl included 16 Shoveler and 10 Goldeneye and waders included 16 Greenshank.
Miscellaneous
A flock of 30 Twite are now in residence and raptors included single Merlin and Peregrine.
