First Water Rail of the autumn

12th October 2019 – sunny spells W2
Offshore
Early morning observations (0800-0900) produced 160 Common Scoter, 33 Razorbill, 8 Red-throated Diver and 3 Gannet.
Grounded Migrants
A few Goldcrest and 5 Long-tailed Tit were logged.
Diurnal Migration
Visible migration finally restarted as the wind decreased with 100 Jackdaw, 62 Redwing, 60 Linnet, 50 Skylark, 30 Tree Sparrow, 29 Chaffinch, 22 Greenfinch, 20 Pied Wagtail, 10 Meadow Pipit, 5 Siskin, 3 Swallow, 2 Reed Bunting, 2 Whooper Swan and a Grey Wagtail.
Wildfowl and Waders
Wildfowl included 101 pale-bellied Brent Goose and a family group of 7 Whooper Swan.
Miscellaneous
A Water Rail was the best of the rest.
