Hooded Crow and Long-tailed Duck

13th October 2023 – early rain then showers WNW3/6
Offshore
A quick scan of the sea in the rain revealed just 37 Common Scoter, 3 Shag and single Arctic Skua and Red-throated Diver, however, the Long-tailed Duck remains along the eastern shore.
Grounded Migrants
Early morning thrushes involved 3 Redwing and a Song Thrush; additional sightings included 18 Robin, 17 Goldcrest, 16 Dunnock, 14 Wren and 2 Chiffchaff.
Diurnal Migration
Despite the conditions totals of 100 Siskin, 40 Pink-footed Goose and 4 Whooper Swan flew through.
Wildfowl and Waders
The Brent Goose flock held 404 light-bellied and 6 dark-bellied birds with a good proportion juvenile, suggesting a good breeding season. Additional wildfowl included 170 Pintail.
Miscellaneous
The Hooded Crow remains in residence and a Merlin was logged.
