Offshore
Totals from two periods of observations in deteriorating conditions (0615-0715 & 1330-1430)included 60 Gannet, 36 Sandwich Tern, 22 Manx Shearwater, 6 Common Scoter and 3 Kittiwake.
Grounded Migrants
Again just a smattering of grounded birds were seen with 10 Willow Warbler and single Yellow Wagtail, Whitethroat and Song Thrush logged.
Miscellaneous
The apparent Lanner x Saker remains and a Merlin was logged.
Further small-scale movement
13th August 2009 - bright and sunny/calm
Offshore
Just small numbers of Sandwich Tern and Gannet were logged.
Grounded Migrants
Some small-scale movement provided 15 Willow Warbler, 12 Wheatear, 3 Sedge Warbler, 3 Robin, 2 Whitethroat and a Blackcap.
Diurnal Migration
A total of 40 Swallow were logged and a solitary Sand Martin flew through.
Wildfowl and Waders
Waders included 15 Greenshank, 9 Whimbrel and a Black-tailed Godwit.
Miscellaneous
An apparent Lanner x Saker was seen.

Early morning observations produced 84 Common Scoter, 42 Gannet, 2 Manx Shearwater and a Kittiwake.

A hint of migration was provided by 20 Pied Wagtail, 10 Willow Warbler, 7 Wheatear and single Whitethroat, Blackcap and Grey Wagtail.
Wildfowl and Waders
Waders included 14 Greenshank, 4 Grey Plover - still in resplendent summer dress - and 2 Whimbrel and a Common Sandpiper.

A total of 35 Wall Brown were logged.

A little more activity than of late with observations (0615-0715) producing 100 Common Scoter, 73 Gannet, 20 Manx Shearwater, 16 Sandwich Tern, 5 Teal and a Kittiwake.
Grounded Migrants
Although the first Spotted Flycatcher of the autumn was logged migrants remained thin on the ground with additional sightings limited to 3 Willow Warbler, 2 Whitethroat, 2 Sedge Warbler and a Wheatear.

A group of 7 Whimbrel flew through.

Offshore
The barren spell continues with early morning observations producing just 24 Common Scoter and 5 Gannet.
Grounded Migrants
Whitethroat and Willow Warbler continue to trickle through with 6 birds of each, also seen were 3 Sedge Warbler and 3 Wheatear.
Diurnal Migration
An Osprey drifted south over the island at 1330hrs.
Dragonflies
Sightings included 7 Brown Hawker and a single Black-tailed Skimmer.

Scant fare with just 3 Whitethroat and 2 Willow Warbler logged.
Diurnal Migration
Again slim pickings with just 3 Swift and 2 Sand Martin.
Wildfowl and Waders
Waders included 180 Sanderling, 100 Turnstone, 80 Ringed Plover, 60 Dunlin, 10 Whimbrel and 2 Greenshank.

A single Little Egret is now in residence.

An influx of Whitethroat saw 14 birds logged along with 7 Willow Warbler, 2 Sedge Warbler and single Garden Warbler and Wheatear.
Diurnal Migration
Three Sand Martin flew through amongst a small passage of Swallow.
Wildfowl and Waders
A Greenshank was the only wader logged!

An influx of Whitethroat saw 14 birds logged along with 7 Willow Warbler, 2 Sedge Warbler and single Garden Warbler and Wheatear.
Diurnal Migration
Three Sand Martin flew through amongst a small passage of Swallow.

Grounded Migrants
A smattering of migrants suggests that southbound migration is beginning to kick in with 20 Willow Warbler, 8 Whitethroat, 2 Sedge Warbler, 2 Wheatear, 2 Cuckoo and a Robin logged.
Diurnal Migration
A total of 60 Swallow congregated on wires before dispersing southwards through the morning.

A group of 6 Whimbrel passed through.
