Early morning sightings (0600-0800) included: 183 Common Scoter, 165 Sandwich Tern, 41 Gannet, 19 Red-throated Diver, 18 Guillemot, 9 Shag, 6 Teal, 3 Manx Shearwater, 2 Arctic Tern and single Arctic Skua and Puffin.
Grounded Migrants
A female Pied Flycatcher and 2 Whinchat were amongst 45 Wheatear, 9 Willow Warbler, 3 Blackcap and 2 Chiffchaff.
Diurnal Migration
A total of 731 Pink-footed Goose flew north early morning and 4 House Martin were amongst 40 Swallow.
Wildfowl and Waders
Waders included: 10,000 Knot, 100 Golden Plover, 49 Whimbrel and a Greenshank.
Miscellaneous
The long-staying adult Hooded Crow and a Peregrine were the best of the rest.

A House Martin was amongst a continued trickle of Swallow.

The Brent Goose flock held 34 pale-bellied birds and waders included: 20,000 Knot, 217 Whimbrel, 100 Golden Plover and a Greenshank.

The long-staying adult Hooded Crow was logged and 4 Raven and a Peregrine were the best of the rest.

Early morning observations (0600-0800) provided 511 Common Scoter, 140 Kittiwake, 112 Gannet, 30 Red-throated Diver, 28 Guillemot, 4 Arctic Skua – all dark morph, 4 Velvet Scoter – all males, 4 Little Tern and single Great Skua, Puffin and Gadwall.
Grounded Migrants
Just 6 Wheatear were logged.
Diurnal Migration
A House Martin was amongst a continued trickle of Swallow.
Wildfowl and Waders
The Brent Goose flock held 37 pale-bellied birds and a drake Gadwall was new in. Waders included: 10,000 Knot, 2,000 Dunlin, 163 Whimbrel, 46 Golden Plover, 23 Grey Plover, 2 Greenshank and a Black-tailed Godwit.
Miscellaneous
A single Twite remains as does the long-staying adult Hooded Crow.

Stone Curlew and Long-eared Owl

Rarities
A male Stone Curlew was located late morning in the field adjacent the old South Walney Refuse Tip and was still present early afternoon at least. View only from the road and do not enter the private fields.
Offshore
Morning observations (0600-0700) revealed 360 Common Scoter, 114 Sandwich Tern, 51 Gannet, 38 Guillemot, 14 Red-throated Diver, 10 Kittiwake, 7 Razorbill, 4 Arctic Tern and 3 Puffin.
Grounded Migrants
Limited to 21 Wheatear and single Chiffchaff, Blackcap and Willow Warbler.
Diurnal Migration
Several skeins of Pink-footed Geese totalling 330 birds headed north early morning and a second-year Hooded Crow flew through.
Wildfowl and Waders
Additional waders included: 2000 Knot, 1400 Dunlin, 68 Whimbrel, 23 Golden Plover, 3 Greenshank and a Black-tailed Godwit.
Miscellaneous
The long-staying adult Hooded Crow continues in residence and a Long-eared Owl was found.

Great Northern Diver and Puffin

Grounded Migrants
Limited to 30 Wheatear.
Diurnal Migration
A skein of 40 Pink-footed Geese headed north early morning and 10 Lesser Redpoll were amongst a further trickle of Swallow.

Limited to 13 Wheatear, 2 Willow Warbler and single Grasshopper Warbler and Goldcrest.
Diurnal Migration
The first House Martin of the year was amongst a further trickle of Swallow, also seen were 50 Pink-footed Geese and 3 Lesser Redpoll.
Wildfowl and Waders
The Brent Goose flock held just 19 light-bellied and 14 dark-bellied birds. Waders included 120 Bar-tailed Godwit – many in summer plumage, 88 Whimbrel and 43 Golden Plover.

The long-staying Hooded Crow and a Merlin were logged.
Breeding Birds
Warblers continue to arrive in low numbers with territorial Blackcap, Whitethroat, Lesser Whitethroat, Sedge Warbler, Grasshopper Warbler, Reed Warbler, Chiffchaff and Willow Warbler all now thinly distributed in suitable breeding habitat across the island.

A Bottle-nosed Dolphin was offshore.

Just 7 Wheatear, 7 Willow Warbler, 3 White Wagtail, 3 Chiffchaff and single Blackcap, Sedge Warbler and Goldcrest were considered newly arrived.
Diurnal Migration
A few birds were on the move with 24 Pink-footed Goose, 11 Lesser Redpoll, 6 Whooper Swan and single Siskin and Tree Pipit logged – the latter the first of the year.

A few Teal and Wigeon remain and waders included 600 Golden Plover, 120 Turnstone, 11 Whimbrel and single Green Sandpiper and Greenshank.

An early morning check of the sea revealed 1000 Eider, 70 Sandwich Tern, 10 Red-throated Diver, 9 Gannet, 7 Common Scoter, 4 Shag and 2 Red-breasted Merganser.
Grounded Migrants
The clear skies were again unconducive to providing many grounded birds with just 2 White Wagtail and single Wheatear, Chiffchaff, Redwing and Long-tailed Tit logged.
Diurnal Migration
A Red Kite was over the island at 1400hrs and additional sightings involved 3 Swallow and single Siskin and Sand Martin.
Wildfowl and Waders
Waders included 5000 Knot and a Ruff.
Miscellaneous
The long-staying Hooded Crow put in an appearance and a Water Rail was the best of the rest.

Offshore
An early morning check of the sea revealed 20 Sandwich Tern and 8 Shag.
Grounded Migrants
Conditions were not conducive to provide grounded birds and consequently sightings were limited to 4 Wheatear and a Chiffchaff.
Diurnal Migration
Sightings included 40 Pink-footed Goose, 40 Meadow Pipit, 2 Siskin and a Rook.
Wildfowl and Waders
Waders included 3 Greenshank and a Shoveler was the pick of the wildfowl.
Miscellaneous
A flock of 60 Twite were logged.

Offshore
An early morning check of the sea (0715-0815) revealed 43 Sandwich Tern, 25 Common Scoter, 9 Red-throated Diver, 8 Gannet, 3 Razorbill and 2 Red-breasted Merganser.
Grounded Migrants
Limited to 2 Wheatear and 2 Goldcrest.
Diurnal Migration
Sightings included 82 Pink-footed Goose, 50 Meadow Pipit and 16 Whooper Swan.
Miscellaneous
Two Raven were the best of the rest.
Breeding Birds
Sand Martins are now present at breeding localities.
