Great Skua and Blackcap added to year list

Offshore
A check over the sea over the high tide period (1020-1120) 45 Gannet, 11 Common Scoter, 6 Kittiwake, 4 Razorbill and single Great Skua and Red-throated Diver.
Grounded Migrants
A Blackcap was new for the year and 12 Fieldfare and a Redwing were also newly grounded.
Wildfowl and Waders
The Brent Goose flock held 100 pale-bellied and 3 dark-bellied birds.
Ringing
The ringing team carried on from where they left off in 2010 with the commencement of spring passage producing a record breaking 148 birds of 25 species in March. The previous best was 102 birds during the infancy of the observatory in 1965. Individual species totals involved: Goldfinch (25), Chaffinch (22), Goldcrest (16), Meadow Pipit (15), Blackbird (13), Greenfinch (10), House Sparrow (8), Reed Bunting (6), Starling (5), Linnet (4), Robin (4), Song Thrush (3), Chiffchaff (3), Great Tit (2), Blue Tit (2), Sparrowhawk (1), Redwing (1), Dunnock (1), Firecrest (1), Willow Warbler (1), Long-tailed Tit (1), Coal Tit (1), Siskin (1), Lesser Redpoll (1)
