A total of 30 Little Egret, 2 Water Rail, 2 Peregrine and a Merlin were the best of the rest.
Butterflies and Moths
A Feathered Thorn was perhaps the last new moth species for the year.

The Great Northern Diver remains and 8 Shag, 5 Red-throated Diver, 3 Razorbill and 2 Common Scoter were also seen.

Three Shoveler were amongst 250 Teal.
Miscellaneous
A Hen Harrier and Peregrine were the best of the rest.

A Goldcrest was logged.
Diurnal Migration
Flocks of 40 Pink-footed Geese and 8 Whooper Swan flew through along with single Fieldfare and Redpoll.
Wildfowl and Waders
Waders included 8 Greenshank.
Miscellaneous
A Hen Harrier was seen and 3 Water Rail and a Merlin were the best of the rest.

A Fieldfare was logged.

The Brent Goose flock held 363 light-bellied birds and single Goosander; 14 Greenshank and a Woodcock were also seen.

Single Merlin and Peregrine were the best of the rest.

The Great Northern Diver remains.

At least one Cetti’s Warbler remains and two Goldcrest and a Fieldfare appeared.
Diurnal Migration
Six Pink-footed Geese flew through.
Miscellaneous
The Hooded Crow and 2 Merlin were the best of the rest.

19th November 2025 – bright and sunny/cold NNW2/4

Observations over the sea ((0800-0900) revealed 200 Razorbill, 35 Common Scoter, 7 Guillemot, 7 Red-throated Diver, 5 Red-breasted Merganser, 3 Shag and 3 Kittiwake.
Grounded Migrants
A single Goldcrest appeared.
Diurnal Migration
A Mistle Thrush was logged.
Miscellaneous
The Hooded Crow and Merlin were the best of the rest.

18th November 2025 – heavy showers W4/6
Offshore
The Great Northern Diver remains.
Wildfowl and Waders
Three Shoveler were the pick of the wildfowl while waders included 40 Grey Plover and 24 Greenshank.
Miscellaneous
Two Raven and the Hooded Crow were the best of the rest.

Busier than of late

16th November 2025 – sunny spells NE3/2
Offshore
The Great Northern Diver remains.
Grounded Migrants
Early morning thrushes involved 10 Blackbird and 2 Song Thrush while 2 Goldcrest were also seen. At least two Cetti’s Warbler remain
Diurnal Migration
115 Pink-footed Goose, 62 Whooper Swan, 3 Siskin, 2 Stock Dove and single Brambling and Tree Sparrow flew through.
Wildfowl and Waders
Two Goosander and a Gadwall were the pick of the wildfowl while waders included 8 Greenshank.
Miscellaneous
Two Water Rail and single Merlin, Peregrine and Hooded Crow were the best of the rest.
Butterflies and Moths
The light trap held single Large Wainscot, Angle Shades and Winter Moth.

Great Northern Diver still present

15th November 2025 – overcast/rain the showers ENE5/6
Offshore
The Great Northern Diver remains and additional sightings involved 40 Common Scoter, 16 Razorbill, 3 Red-throated Diver and a Shag.
Grounded Migrants
Early morning thrushes involved 2 Redwing and a Fieldfare. A Grey Wagtail was also logged.
Diurnal Migration
A total of 55 Pink-footed Goose and 15 Whooper Swan flew through.
Wildfowl and Waders
A group of 12 Whooper Swan were grounded and 3 Shoveler were seen.
Miscellaneous
The long-staying Hooded Crow was the best of the rest.

First Purple Sandpiper and Goldeneye return

The Great Northern Diver remains and 15 Common Scoter, 4 Razorbill and single Goldeneye and Kittiwake were logged.

Early morning thrushes involved 3 Fieldfare and a Redwing.

Waders included a Purple Sandpiper and 6 Pink-footed Geese were grounded.

The long-staying Hooded Crow was the best of the rest.

The east shore produced a Great Northern Diver and redhead Goosander.
Grounded Migrants
A Blackcap was new in and the singing Cetti’s Warbler remains.
Wildfowl and Waders
Waders included 14 Greenshank.
Miscellaneous
A Water Rail and the long-staying Hooded Crow were the best of the rest.

First Woodcock of autumn

12th November 2025 – sunny spells S2/4
Grounded Migrants
Cetti’s Warblers involved the singing male and a newly arrived individual while a Chiffchaff was amongst 7 Goldcrest.
Diurnal Migration
Two Brambling and 2 Redpoll were amongst 50 Chaffinch and 1030 Jackdaw were logged.
Wildfowl and Waders
The first Woodcock of the autumn was seen.
Miscellaneous
The Hooded Crow remains and 2 Water Rail and single Merlin and Peregrine were the best of the rest.
Butterflies and Moths
Migrants in the light trap involved Olive-tree Pearl while the Winter Moth was likely the last new species for the year.

A quiet day

10th November 2025 – sun and showers then rain SSE3/4
Offshore
The sea provided 3000 Eider, 19 Razorbill, 9 Shag, 6 Red-breasted Merganser, 4 Great Crested Grebe, 4 Guillemot and 3 Common Scoter.
Grounded Migrants
Just a single Redwing was logged.
Diurnal Migration
A Tree Sparrow flew through.
Wildfowl and Waders
Waders included 21 Greenshank.
Miscellaneous
Single Water Rail and Hooded Crow were the best of the rest.

Velvet Scoter

9th November 2025 – overcast/showers then rain SE3/5
Offshore
Observations over the sea (0730-0830) before the rain set in produced 34 Common Scoter, 2 Velvet Scoter, 2 Red-breasted Merganser, 2 Guillemot and a Kittiwake.
Grounded Migrants
Limited to a single Goldcrest.
Diurnal Migration
A total of 400 Starling flew through.
Miscellaneous
The Hooded Crow remains.

Gadwall and Cetti’s Warblers

8th November 2025 – sun and showers W2/3
Grounded Migrants
Early morning thrushes involved 14 Blackbird, 6 Redwing, 3 Song Thrush and a Fieldfare. Also seen were 10 Stonechat, 5 Goldcrest and a Blackcap along with 2 Cetti’s Warbler – including a singing male.
Diurnal Migration
Totals of 150 Jackdaw, 33 Pink-footed Goose, 10 Siskin, 5 Redpoll and 2 Whooper Swan.
Wildfowl and Waders
Wildfowl included a female Gadwall and 2 Jack Snipe were the pick of the waders.
Miscellaneous
A total of 9 Twite are now present while 3 Water Rail and single Merlin and Hooded Crow were the best of the rest.

Another Kingfisher

6th November 2025 – sunny spells ESE2/4
Offshore
A check of the sea produced 21 Shag.
Wildfowl and Waders
Wildfowl included 1852 Wigeon, 835 Teal, 325 light-bellied Brent Goose, 305 Shelduck and 4 Shoveler and waders included 3272 Oystercatcher, 1120 Redshank, 458 Curlew, 300 Golden Plover, 272 Lapwing, 232 Turnstone, 146 Snipe, 20 Greenshank and 2 Jack Snipe.
Miscellaneous
A Kingfisher was seen and at least 4 Water Rails are present on the island. The island’s woodland hosted 22 Redwing, 4 Fieldfare, 2 Jay, 2 Goldcrest and single Great Spotted Woodpecker and Chiffchaff.

Great Northern Diver and Twite

3rd November 2025 – overcast/rain SW5/6
Offshore
Observations over the sea revealed single Gannet and Great Northern Diver.
Wildfowl and Waders
Waders included 14 Greenshank.
Miscellaneous
A solitary Twite – the first of the autumn was amongst 52 Linnet and the resident Hooded Crow, 2 Merlin and a Peregrine were the best of the rest.
Ringing
A colour ringed Herring Gull had been ringed on the island in 2024.

Kingfisher

2nd November 2025 – sun and showers W3/4
Offshore
A check of the sea revealed 7 Common Scoter, 2 Kittiwake, 2 Shag and a Red-throated Diver.
Grounded Migrants
Early morning thrushes involved 5 Redwing and a Fieldfare. The Cetti’s Warbler remains and 2 Goldcrest were logged
Diurnal Migration
Totals included 160 Jackdaw, 80 Pink-footed Goose, 75 Woodpigeon, 10 Chaffinch, 6 Tree Sparrow and single Redpoll and Brambling
Wildfowl and Waders
Waders included a Black-tailed Godwit.
Miscellaneous
A Kingfisher was seen and 2 Merlin and 2 Water Rail were the best of the rest.
Butterflies and Moths
The light trap held 2 Large Wainscot and a Rusty Dot Pearl.
