Offshore
A check of the sea before the weather closed in (0630-0830) revealed a Black Tern along with 47 Gannet, 20 Common Scoter, 2 Sandwich Tern, 2 Arctic Tern and a Razorbill.
Wildfowl and Waders
A flock of 25 Black-tailed Godwit were logged.
Founded in 1964, the work of Walney Bird Observatory is funded entirely by membership subscription. Since 1965 it has been an accredited member of the British Trust for Ornithology’s bird observatories network which operates across Britain and Ireland. Bird Observatories are at the forefront of conservation, monitoring bird populations through the medium of census work, daily recording of migrants and ringing.

Offshore
An early morning check over the sea (0700-0800) revealed just 31 Common Scoter, 8 Gannet, 4 Razorbill, 2 Little Tern and a Kittiwake.
Grounded Migrants
A few birds were in evidence with 13 Wheatear, 10 White Wagtail, 7 Willow Warbler, 2 Whitethroat and a Sedge Warbler logged.
Diurnal Migration
The best movement of the autumn so far saw 46 alba Wagtail, 22 Tree Pipit, 21 Tree Sparrow and 12 Grey Wagtail moving through.
Wildfowl and Waders
Two Wigeon were amongst 40 Teal and waders included 5 Greenshank, 2 Whimbrel and 2 Black-tailed Godwit.
Miscellaneous
At least 33 Little Egret are now on the island, birds of prey included 4 Sparrowhawk and a Little Owl.

Grounded birds included: 5 Willow Warbler, 3 Wheatear, 2 Spotted Flycatcher, 2 Sedge Warbler, 2 Whitethroat and single Yellow Wagtail and White Wagtail.
Diurnal Migration
Two Yellow Wagtail flew through.

Offshore
The calm seas revealed 7,045 Eider and 69 Common Scoter.
Grounded Migrants
A small fall was evident with 51 Willow Warbler, 19 Stonechat, 13 Whitethroat, 9 Sedge Warbler, 7 Whinchat, 6 Wheatear, 2 Spotted Flycatcher and a Cuckoo logged.
Diurnal Migration
Five Tree Pipit were recorded along with 79 Swallow, 22 House Martin and 3 Sand Martin.

A Garganey was amongst 33 Teal and waders included 22 Greenshank, 8 Whimbrel, 7 Black-tailed Godwit and a juvenile Little Ringed Plover.
Miscellaneous
A total of 4 Sparrowhawk were seen.

A Painted Lady was seen and moths attracted overnight included Portland Moth.

Offshore
Early morning observations (0715-0915) produced a Black Tern along with 431 Common Scoter, 36 Sandwich Tern, 10 Gannet, 9 Manx Shearwater, 7 Kittiwake and 2 Fulmar. Later observations (1230-1330) added 50 Sandwich Tern, 7 Manx Shearwater, 3 Shag and a Little Tern.
Wildfowl and Waders
Waders included 600 Knot, 50 Ringed Plover, 14 Bar-tailed Godwit and 2 Greenshank.
Miscellaneous
A Merlin was the best of the rest.

A group of 14 Golden Plover and a Whimbrel were the only waders logged.
