A migrant moth day

27th August 2025 – bright start then showers SE3/5
Offshore
Observations over the sea (0700-0800) produced 101 Common Scoter, 60 Manx Shearwater, 54 Gannet, 2 Shag and a Sandwich Tern.
Grounded Migrants
Remaining quiet with 6 White Wagtail and single Yellow Wagtail and Grey Wagtail amongst 10 Pied Wagtail.
Miscellaneous
The resident Hooded Crow was the best of the rest.
Butterflies and Moths
The light trap held 199 moths of 44 species with migrants represented by 25 Rusty Dot Pearl, 4 Silver Y and single Rush Veneer, Dark Sword-grass and Scarce Bordered Straw – the latter the first of the year.
