Geese on the move

25th September 2010 – bright and sunny N1/2/3
Offshore
Just small numbers of Common Scoter were on the move early morning.
Grounded Migrants
A scattering of grounded birds included 18 Robin, 10 Dunnock, 6 Blue Tit, 5 Wren, 5 Chiffchaff, 2 Goldcrest, 2 Great Tit and single Tree Sparrow and Blackcap.
Diurnal Migration
Geese were again on the move with 675 Pink-footed Geese heading south and 40 Barnacle Geese heading north. Also logged were 300 Meadow Pipit, 60 Skylark, 40 Chaffinch, 20 alba Wagtail, 10 Swallow, 10 Greenfinch and a Grey Wagtail.
Miscellaneous
A Little Owl continues to be logged.
Moths
Both Red-line Quaker and Yellow-line Quaker were found in the moth trap – the latter the first island record.
