Another migrant moth day

30th August 2025 – sun and showers then rain S3/4
Offshore
Observations over the sea (0700-0800) produced 860 Common Scoter, 14 Sandwich Tern,8 Shag, 6 Gannet and 2 Arctic Tern.
Grounded Migrants
Another quiet day produced just a single Chiffchaff.
Diurnal Migration
Only evidenced by a single Tree Pipit.

A Water Rail was the best of the rest
Butterflies and Moths
The light trap held 114 moths of 37 species with migrants represented by 17 Rusty Dot Pearl, 2 Silver Y, 2 Olive tree Pearl, 2 Rush Veneer and a single Dark Swordgrass along with a worn example of Cosmopolitan – the latter the first for the island.
