First Redwing arrive

10th October 2009 - misty start then sunny spells W1/2
Grounded Migrants
Early mist produced a smattering of grounded birds including 4 Song Thrush, 3 Redwing, 2 Chiffchaff and a Blackcap.
Diurnal Migration
The mist soon evaporated to produce clear skies and birds were again on the move. Sightings were highlighted by a Common Buzzard that drifted slowly north over the island, also seen were 130 Skylark, 115 Starling, 110 Meadow Pipit, 83 Greenfinch, 70 alba Wagtail, 54 Swallow, 18 Reed Bunting, 18 Chaffinch, 9 Siskin, 3 Lesser Redpoll, 2 Grey Wagtail and a Rock Pipit.
Wildfowl and Waders
Wigeon and Teal numbers continue to build steadily and waders included 16 Greenshank and a lone Black-tailed Godwit.
Miscellaneous
Just 3 Little Egret were logged and the Kingfisher put in another appearance late in the day. Other records included Water Rail, Merlin and several Little Owl.
Butterflies
Butterflies were also moving through with 10 Red Admiral and 2 Painted Lady.
Moths
Migrants in the moth traps involved 2 Rush Veneer and a Silver Y.
