Scaup and Short-eared Owl

19th May 2019 – overcast then sunny NW1/2
Offshore
Early morning (0630-0730) produced 145 Sandwich Tern, 47 Arctic Tern, 40 Guillemot, 28 Razorbill, 25 Gannet, 23 Kittiwake and single Common Tern and Red-throated Diver.
Grounded Migrants
Three Spotted Flycatcher were the only migrant passerine logged.
Wildfowl and Waders
Wildfowl included 4 Gadwall (2 males + 2 females) and a drake Scaup while 2 Whimbrel were the best of the rest.
Miscellaneous
A Short-eared Owl was hunting mid-morning and a Buzzard flew southeast over the island.
Moths
At last the moth trap has come to life in the last few nights with Common Swift, Brimstone, Common Carpet, Silver-ground Carpet, Heart and Dart, Setaceous Hebrew Character, Ruby Tiger, Bright-line Brown-eye, Marbled Coronet, Shoulder-striped Wainscot, Clouded-bordered Brindle, Spectacle, Gold-spot, Large Yellow Underwing and Poplar Hawk-moth all new for the year.
