Velvet Scoter

Offshore
Early morning observations in persistent rain (0630-0830) revealed 300 Sandwich Tern, 148 Common Scoter, 13 Gannet, 7 Manx Shearwater, 3 Arctic Tern and single Common Tern and Red-throated Diver. Later observations revealed that the huge flock of Common Scoter remains in the mouth of Morecambe Bay which held at least one Velvet Scoter. Also seen were 42 Arctic Tern and 24 Little Tern.
Grounded Migrants
A Spotted Flycatcher was the only migrant passerine logged.
Wildfowl and Waders
Waders included 650 Sanderling, 5 Black-tailed Godwit and 2 Whimbrel.
