24th August 2023 – overcast then sunny spells WNW2/3
Offshore
Early morning observations over the sea (0630-0730) produced 175 Common Scoter, 20 Sandwich Tern, 10 Shag, 4 Gannet and 2 Arctic Tern.
Grounded Migrants
Just a few birds were in evidence with 8 Willow Warbler, 6 Whitethroat, 4 Robin and single White Wagtail, Spotted Flycatcher and Goldcrest logged.
Diurnal Migration
Morning totals involved 60 Pied Wagtail, 20 Swallow, 14 Tree Pipit, 7 Grey Wagtail, 4 Tree Sparrow and a Yellow Wagtail.
Wildfowl and Waders
Waders included 130 Sanderling, 2 Green Sandpiper, 2 Whimbrel and a Ruff.
Miscellaneous
Raptors involved 3 Marsh Harriers, 2 Sparrowhawk, 2 Kestrel and single Merlin and Peregrine.
Butterflies and Moths
The moth trap held 109 moths of 31 species, immigrants included Rusty Dot Pearl, Dark Sword Grass and Silver Y.
