Miscellaneous
Several Merlin are now in evidence and one even masqueraded as a Hobby as it hunted Swallows.
Ringing
Two interesting recent recoveries involving colour-ringed birds. An adult Kittiwake which briefly alighted on a boat six miles off Walney Island on 25th August 2009 had been ringed on the nest at Pointe du Raz, Finistere, France during 1999. It has bred there ever year since and was last seen on 11th August 2009. In addition, a juvenile Cormorant roosting on the island on 6th September 2009 had been ringed as a nestling at Puffin Island, North Wales on 27th June 2009.
