Woodcock and Water Rail

16th November 2019 – overcast/calm
The sea produced 287 Common Scoter, 30 Razorbill, 17 Red-throated Diver, 10 Shag, 8 Red-breasted Merganser and a Guillemot.
Grounded Migrants
Few birds were recorded, early morning thrushes were limited to 7 Song Thrush and 4 Fieldfare while single Chiffchaff and Goldcrest were also seen.
Diurnal Migration
Again only a few birds remain on the move with 30 Pink-footed Goose and 10 Whooper Swan logged.
Wildfowl and Waders
Waders included 7 Purple Sandpiper and 2 Woodcock – the latter the first of the autumn.
Single Water Rail, Barn Owl and Merlin were the best of the rest.
The calm seas revealed 2 Common Dolphin and a Harbour Porpoise.
