First Whimbrel arrives

10th April 2021 – bright and frosty/calm

Offshore
A check of the sea produced 40 Sandwich Tern, 11 Common Scoter, 8 Shag, 7 Red-throated Diver, 3 Gannet, 3 Red-breasted Merganser and a pale phase Arctic Skua.
Grounded Migrants
Slightly better than of late with 14 Wheatear, 4 White Wagtail, 3 Chiffchaff, 2 Willow Warbler and 2 Goldcrest logged.
Diurnal Migration
A few Swallow and Sand Martin moved through.
Wildfowl and Waders
The Brent Goose flock held 310 pale-bellied birds and waders included 90 Bar-tailed Godwit and single Greenshank and Whimbrel – the latter the first of the year.
Miscellaneous
The long-staying Hooded Crow continues to be recorded and additional sightings included 71 Twite, 2 Merlin and 2 Peregrine.
