The calm after the storm

Offshore
Early morning observations (0715-0815) were highlighted by an Arctic Skua heading into Morecambe Bay along with 60 Sandwich Tern and 40 Common Scoter. Also seen were small numbers of Red-throated Diver, Gannet, Manx Shearwater, Kittiwake and Razorbill.
Grounded Migrants
Although a quieter day 7 Lesser Whitethroat were logged and totals of 25 Wheatear, 8 Blackcap, 3 Willow Warbler, 2 Chiffchaff and single Redstart and Sedge Warbler included some new arrivals.
Diurnal Migration
Although no coordinated count was undertaken there was a noticeable Swallow influx with around 60 birds logged.
Wildfowl and Waders
A single dark-bellied Brent Goose was logged and a flock of 78 Black-tailed Godwit roosted over the tide along with 335 Golden Plover, 18 Whimbrel, 20 Purple Sandpiper, 250 Turnstone and a single Spotted Redshank.
Butterflies and Moths
An Orange Tip was on the wing and the moth trap produced Chamomile Shark and Hebrew Character.
