Gull colony shows continued stabilisation and a Cuckoo finally arrives

Offshore
Early morning observations (0615-0715) produced 150 Sandwich Tern, 90 Common Scoter, 60 Gannet, 3 Kittiwake and 3 Guillemot.
Grounded Migrants
The first Cuckoo of the year finally arrived, otherwise sightings were limited to a single Wheatear and the long-staying Hooded Crow.
Breeding Birds
The results of the annual gull census reveal a stable population after many years of decline with 11,988 pairs of Lesser Black-backed Gull and 3,066 pairs of Herring Gull.
Mammals
Two deer were observed swimming in the channel between the island and the mainland.
