9th July 2019 – overcast/drizzle soon/rain later SW1
Offshore
Early morning observations over the sea (0630-0730) were unrewarding until a Pomarine Skua flew south ahead of the first band of drizzle approaching across the Irish Sea. Also seen were 95 Common Scoter, 38 Manx Shearwater, 35 Gannet, 20 Sandwich Tern, 3 Kittiwake, 2 Guillemot and a Little Tern
Grounded Migrants
The Treecreeper remains while warblers included 3 Whitethroat, 2 Willow Warbler and single Lesser Whitethroat and Blackcap – all appearing to be leftovers from yesterday.
Wildfowl and waders
Waders included small numbers of Turnstone, Sanderling and Dunlin.
Butterflies and Moths
The moth trap attracted a total of 243 of 56 species with Mother of Pearl, Wormwood Pug, Rosy Minor and Fan Foot all new for the year
Flowers
The Walney Geranium is now in bloom.
