Mediterranean Gulls and first Ruff of the autumn

Offshore
An early morning check of the sea revealed 165 Common Scoter, 120 Sandwich Tern, 14 Little Tern, 2 Gannet and single Arctic Skua, Common Tern and Shag.
Grounded Migrants
A few grounded birds were in evidence with 10 Willow Warbler, 3 Wheatear, 3 Whitethroat and 3 Sedge Warbler logged.
Wildfowl and Waders
Waders included 930 Curlew, 550 Redshank, 315 Sanderling, 183 Turnstone, 52 Grey Plover, 33 Bar-tailed Godwit, 14 Whimbrel, 11 Greenshank and single Ruff and Black-tailed Godwit.
Miscellaneous
A total of 62 Little Egret were logged, the Hooded Crow remains and 2 juvenile Mediterranean Gull and a Merlin were the best of the rest.
Butterflies and Moths
Although rather scarce so far this year a “fresh” Painted Lady was seen while the moth trap held Flounced Rustic and Canary-shouldered Thorn - both new for the year.
