Visible Migration gains momentum

Offshore
Early morning observations over the sea (0630-0730) produced 310 Sandwich Tern, 30 Common Scoter, 17 Shag, 10 Gannet, 5 Shoveler, 2 Arctic Tern and single Common Tern and Arctic Skua.
Grounded Migrants
Although 3 Whitethroat and a Sedge Warbler were logged, 2 White Wagtail and a Wheatear were perhaps the only newly grounded bird.
Diurnal Migration
Totals of 105 Sand Martin, 43 Pied Wagtail, 40 Swallow, 12 Tree Sparrow, 11 House Martin, 3 Yellow Wagtail and 2 Swift flew through.
Wildfowl and Waders
Sightings included single Whimbrel and Black-tailed Godwit.
Miscellaneous
The Hooded Crow continues its residency and a juvenile Marsh Harrier hunted the saltmarsh. Finch flocks included 100 Linnet and 70 Goldfinch.
Butterflies and Moths
The light trap held 98 moths of 28 species with Small Angles Shades and Hedge Rustic new for the year.
