First Cuckoo finally arrives

Offshore
An early scan of the sea, before the weather again closed in (0630-0730), produced 252 Common Scoter, 220 Sandwich Tern, 17 Guillemot, 16 Kittiwake, 13 Gannet, 10 Red-throated Diver and 5 Puffin.
Grounded Migrants
Limited to 2 Wheatear and single Willow Warbler, Blackcap and Cuckoo – the latter the first of the year.
Diurnal Migration
A trickle of Swallow flew through.
Wildfowl and Waders
At least 7 Whimbrel were seen.
Miscellaneous
The long-staying resident Hooded Crow remains.
Butterflies and Moths
The first Large White are now on the wing and Flame Carpet and Silver Y were attracted to the light overnight.
