Velvet Scoters

7th May 2023 – fog/mist/mizzle clearing later W1
Offshore
An early scan of the sea, before the weather closed in, produced 40 Sandwich Tern, 20 Gannet, 8 Shag, 4 Red-throated Diver, 3 Arctic Tern, 2 Kittiwake and single Arctic Skua and Manx Shearwater. Later observations added 3 Velvet Scoter and 100 Common Scoter moving into the bay.
Grounded Migrants
Limited to 4 Yellow Wagtail, 3 Willow Warbler, 2 Blackcap, 2 Wheatear and single Spotted Flycatcher and Robin.
Diurnal Migration
Two Tree Pipit flew through.
Wildfowl and Waders
The pair of Gadwall remain.
Miscellaneous
The long-staying resident Hooded Crow remains.
Mammals
An Otter put in another appearance.
Butterflies and Moths
White Ermine was new for the year.
