First Pink-footed Geese fly through

13th September 2022 – bright and sunny N1/2
Offshore
A scan of the sea at dawn revealed 20 Common Scoter, 7 Shag, 6 Gannet, 5 Sandwich Tern and 2 Red-throated Diver.
Grounded Migrants
A smattering of grounded birds involved 14 Robin, 10 Wheatear, 5 Chiffchaff, 2 White Wagtail and single Whinchat, Redstart and Willow Warbler.
Diurnal Migration
The first 183 Pink-footed Geese of the autumn flew through and additional sightings included 100 Meadow Pipit, 40 Swallow, 20 Grey Wagtail, 20 Tree Sparrow, 2 Sand Martin and a Yellow Wagtail.
Wildfowl and Waders
The 4 light-bellied Brent Geese were again present amongst 603Wigeon, 289 Teal, 108 Mallard and 9 Shelduck. Waders included 4022 Oystercatcher, 1903 Redshank, 1071 Curlew, 549 Dunlin, 338 Turnstone, 180 Golden Plover, 172 Lapwing, 106 Grey Plover and 35 Greenshank.
Miscellaneous
The Hooded Crow continues in residence and a monthly record total of 79 Little Egret were along the eastern shore.
