Red-necked Grebe!

5th September 2022 – bright and sunny SE3
A partial summer plumaged Red-necked Grebe was close inshore as it slowly drifted into Morecambe Bay on the morning tide – perhaps the returning bird from earlier in the year.
The check of the sea also revealed 11 Common Scoter, 8 Shag, 3 Razorbill, 2 Sandwich Tern and single Black Guillemot, Red-throated Diver and Mediterranean Gull.
Grounded Migrants
Limited to single Wheatear, Lesser Whitethroat and Sedge Warbler.
Diurnal Migration
A trickle included 20 Swallow, 10 Sand Martin and a House Martin.
Wildfowl and Waders
Waders included 10 Greenshank and single Black-tailed Godwit and Ruff – the latter the first of the year.
The Hooded Crow remains.
At least one Otter remains.
