When the east wind blows!

4th September 2022 – overcast/early rain then showers ESE3/4
Offshore
Early morning observations (0900-1000) as the rain relented produced 145 Common Scoter, 102 Gannet, 21 Wigeon, 15 Sandwich Tern, 12 Teal, 4 Kittiwake, 2 Razorbill and a Red-throated Diver.
Grounded Migrants
Limited to single Lesser Whitethroat, Whitethroat and Sedge Warbler.
Diurnal Migration
Only a trickle of Swallow and Meadow Pipit were logged.
Miscellaneous
A distant Peregrine was the best of the rest.
Butterflies and Moths
The moth trap held 164 moths of 31 species, immigrants involved Dark Swordgrass, Silver Y and Rush Veneer while Autumnal Rustic was new for the year.
Insects
Insect watching, including what appears to be a Field Grasshopper, showed just how quiet a day it was for birds.
